"I used to love Taylor Swift, but not anymore. Her songs are scary, mom!"

This is what my 7 year old said.

Even my 7 year old can see un-Godly, un-Christian values showing up everywhere. On Netflix & Disney & in the lyrics of songs by famous musicians like Taylor Swift. Even in the Olympics, for goodness sake!

Isn't anything safe to watch anymore?

There seems to be witchcraft and demonic activity starting at the very roots - in kids TV shows and in the books they bring home from the library. All meant to de-sensitise them to God.

Anything seems to be OK these days, everything is "allowed"- all under the guise of inclusivity.

And yet, people aren't really happy.

Mental health issues are at an all-time high.

Our children are at risk.

But there's HOPE.

In my search for safe, biblically sound resources for my family, I have come across a lot of great Christian content - both paid and free - that has been fun, educational and always points to Jesus.

Here are my Top 5 Christian Entertainment Recommendations

  1. The Chosen (TV show)

Price: Free

This is my favourite TV show ever!!! It is the most realistic depiction of Jesus I have ever seen. I love how each character in the story is so different and relatable. My favourites are Mary Magdalene, Nicodemus, Matthew & Nathaniel. And ofcourse, Jesus, played by Jonathan Roumie, is my absolute favouritest!!! (If that is even a word).

This show has changed my life & I cannot recommend it enough.

If you're watching with kids, start with Episode 3 of Season 1: Jesus loves the little children. It is a really sweet one. My kids' (aged 5 & 7) favourite episode.

Go on. Binge Jesus.

2. Good News Guys (Youtube)

Price: Free

Two dads, Jordan & Vinnie, who started making music and kids videos when they realised (during Covid) that there wasnt any new Christian content for kids to watch. Check out their story here. My 2 year old & 3 year old have learnt to sing all their songs and love listening to them on repeat.

3. Hallow (Phone App)

Price: Free version available.

This app has everything I need to create a good prayer routine in my day. From 3-minute inspirational talks to deeper, longer Bible studies (Bible in a Year) to music for every season (Easter, Advent, Rock, Pop, Taize), this app is my go-to each morning. Featuring Jonathan Roumie (from the Chosen), Fr. Mike Schmitz, Bishop Robert Barron, Sr. Miriam James, Jeff Cavins, Jim Caviezel and more amazing people to guide you and encourage you on your Christian journey.

4. New Faith Network (Movie Streaming)

Price: Free trial 14 days, then $15 per month or $99 per year (USD)

Ditch Netflix & Disney and subscribe to this Christian Streaming Service. It great movies for all ages that are rooted on Christian values. Our family movie nights are now filled with great conversations about life, but with a safe, Christian perspective.

5. Angel Studios (Movies & Series)

Price: Some free shows, some paid

Angel studios has some great kids shows that are free to watch, along with movies and even stand-up comedy thats Christian (and funny!). My older kids (aged 5 & 7) love to watch Young David - it has a some great songs & my younger kids (aged 2 & 3) love watching Jungle Beat.

So there.... some great stuff to get you going...

If you watch/ try any of these, let me know your thoughts.

And if you have anything to add to the list, please add it in the comments.

I'm always looking for wholesome entertainment for my family to enjoy.
